Fitting Carpet Under Skirting Boards

You are now ready to fit your carpet.

Fitting carpet under skirting boards. Carpet gripper comes with nails or screws already in situ so hammer in the nails or screw in the screws. Use a hacksaw to cut the gripper to size. If you are planning to lay a new wooden or tiled floor do this before you fit the skirting boards for the neatest finish. Stand in one corner with your foot underneath the carpet and move it into place with your other foot.

Unroll your carpet and lay it loosely into position on the floor. Actually not quite true. Cut the carpet down to size if you need to but leave at least 50mm extra around the edges. If you re carpeting fit the skirting boards first. The gripper is laid about 1 4 away from the skirting board and the carpet gets trapped in the space between the skirting board and the edge of the gripper. With carpet they are more flexible in installation so the skirting boards can go in before and the carpet butted up against them with a tad of stretching.

Fit carpet up to skirting. Place the gripper rods 2 3 of the carpet thickness away from the skirting boards with the pins pointing towards the skirting boards. Always use the back of the blade to push the carpet down into the gap between gripper and skirting before you cut. The quads go in last with wooden flooring but the skirting boards are put in with a small gap to the floor.
